A Bit About My Colorful Life
Hey friend! I’m Zareth Halaby, also known by the nickname “Z.” I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and I have a BFA in Illustration from California State University Long Beach. In 2020, I discovered my love for making children’s illustrations after working as a part time Elementary School Art Teacher. I loved working with kids, and I also love art, so why not make art FOR kids? It was then that I shifted from an impressionistic art style to something more cute and bubbly. Working with grade school children also taught me a lot about what they want to see in the media as well as what really resonates with them. And what do kids really love? Science!
I can relate to this, because when I was a little girl, I wanted to be a scientist. One year I wanted to be a geologist, the next a biologist, the next a zoologist. I went through every science until I eventually landed on... artist! But why not work with both? As a scientific illustrator, I get to learn about many sciences, and at the same time pursue my passion of illustrating for kids. I used to read book after book about various sciences (I still do!) and I want to pass on my excitement for science to the next generation, because those fun illustrated science books brought me so much joy and curiosity. So now, you can find me illustrating on subjects like astronomy, marine biology, archeology, and so much more! Not only are the illustrations cute, but they will educate children about the world and beyond.
